The Heart of Gustavo Casanova Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in April 2011, was created in loving memory of Gustavo Casanova, a beloved husband, father of four, son, brother, uncle, friend, coach and so much more..
On Friday, June 1, 2001, we lost our “ROCK”, due to a massive heart attack he suffered while coaching soccer practice at one of the local parks in Miami, FL. In his early 50′s, Gustavo was in the best shape of his life when his heart gave out…and ours were forever crushed. Gustavo had a love for soccer and staying fit and active and leading a healthy, happy life. Gustavo Casanova, born in Montevideo, Uruguay, emigrated to the United States with his family in 1965. He graduated medical school at the University de Cadiz in Spain and completed his residency at Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. Throughout the following 20 years he worked with Pan American Hospital, Mount Sinai and Miami Heart Institute.
Over 10 years later his family, friends and soccer players still cherish the impact Gustavo had on us. His memory will forever live strong in our hearts and his love for life will live on forever. We realize that there are other families who have suffered the same type of tragic loss, some of which could have been prevented. Because of this, we are committed to raising awareness of the importance of life-saving skills and equipment through promoting and providing CPR training in our communities and the significance of Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) and the role they may play in saving a life.
“When you love people and have the desire to make a profound, positive impact upon the world, then you will accomplish the meaning to live.”
Chairman Joe Martinez issued the Heart of Gustavo Casanova Foundation a “Congratulatory Certificate” for the efforts of our 1st event which took place June 4th, 2011
